Paula Minydzak is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in other words a “Yinzer.” Her parents were an Italian woman and a Slovak man who lived across the street from each other in Glassport, PA, where the Sons of Italy club still exists today. Many of her characters are based on colorful relatives or friends, some of whom spoke with Italian accents.

Her background is in legal and technical writing, including training manuals and presentations. Under the pen name Kaia Misk, she published The Firstborn Son, a romantic suspense book, and is seeking representation for her next novel. The Second Son is a crime fiction work that continues the Renzi series but is not a romance by definition. Otherwise, she is an excellent tailor and patternmaker, having taught both classes as adjunct faculty on the college level. Her IMDb page lists work on two full-length films.

An avid reader, Paula is particularly inspired by the Hat Squad books by Karen Rose and Kat Martin’s novels. She adores the complex relationships in J. Kenner’s books, although one of her favorites is still Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

She lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania near her family with a Norwegian Elkhound named Boss, who will likely appear in one of her future books.
